Location: Trans Earth – Luna Orbit
A new journal, a new adventure. Had my orders cut last night, wasn’t given much time. That’s fine though. Transferring from San Francisco to Luna 1 was a dream of mine, lets me get out of the Shield Bunker.
Though according to my CO I won’t be spending much time in Luna 1 as they’ll be prepping me to ship out to Europa orbit in a few weeks. The recycled air on the shuttle is so much nicer than the smog of SF. Even my suite in the Shield Bunker didn’t have air quite as clean and crisp.
I guess I should probably describe Earth to the reader. In 2299 a group of terrorists uploaded to the atmospheric reprocessing plants of Earth a virus. The virus infected the AI controlling all the plants, instead of reprocessing the air into something breathable, it began to poison the planet. The poisons they created started with the upper atmosphere, it slowly creeped down, birds were the first thing to begin dying when the miasma reached them. Mountain tops, and high altitude cities began to die. Many citizens had been moved to the Shield Bunkers, built in the late 2060’s they had been designed against catastrophic environmental destruction.
They weren’t going to hold out forever though, our Patriarch was very clear about this. The Union predicted the Shield Bunkers to last another 15 years at most. The Order on the other hand was being more conservative saying they had seen some degradation already on the protective shells of the bunkers and their Overseer was restricting travel between bunkers to prevent the corrosive gasses from entering the bunkers.
Resurrection Centers were also disabled. People dying just weren’t being given their clones or shells anymore. When you died your archive would be loaded up and sent to Mars or Luna, or… that’s what we would tell people. No we’ve been shipping their archives out to Europa according to my debriefing this morning. People believed they would wake up in twenty or thirty years when their number came up and they were given a chance to live on Mars or Luna.
That honestly couldn’t be further from the truth of the matter. No. Things were much more serious than that.
Damn, Luna 1 dock coming up in 5 min, gotta gather my stuff.
